No need to settle for generic newsletter sign-up links
The links that are generated by email subscription services are generic and often long. For example, the Makery Space newsletter sign-up URL is http://eepurl.com/bqJuL1. (That’s actually the shortlink MailChimp creates. The original URL is crazy long.) While that’s not a problem when linking within a blog post where anchor text can be used, such as sign up for my newsletter, it’s definitely not the best choice for graphics or other places where you need to display the actual URL.
This Maker Matters Quick Tip Video will walk you through the steps of creating that shortlink.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Customized bitly URLs are actually case sensitive, so you may consider having two of them. For example, I created both bit.ly/MakerySpace and bit.ly/makeryspace so that my newsletter sign-up page can be accessed regardless of how someone types the shortlink. It really doesn’t work if the cases don’t match. I tried it.
