Off site links on Etsy have always been a disappointment to me as a seller, because buyers have to take the time to copy & paste them into their browser. Not being able to offer a live, clickable link to relevant information can make for a frustrating customer experience.
I’m happy to report that there’s an exception to this rule. It’s a good one, and you should be sure and capitalize on it.
Actually, there are two exceptions. The other one isn’t covered in the video, so I’ll mention it here.
Off site links on Etsy About page
Hopefully you’re already aware of this one, because that means you’ve created your About page. I consider this to be one of the most important pages on a blog or in a shop.
On your About page, there is a place in the right sidebar to provide links to your blog, Facebook page, Instagram, Pinterest, or “shop website.” (The Instagram and Pinterest options are new!) For many people, Etsy is their shop website, so linking that wouldn’t be the best use of those limited slots. You might consider using that option for your newsletter signup form. You only get three links there, so decide on the ones that are the most important to you.
If you sell on another platform, this is a great place to link your other shop. And yes, it is actually allowed. This didn’t used to be the case. In past years, you could potentially get your shop closed down for providing a link to anywhere else that you sell the same items as your shop on Etsy. But Etsy Admin clarified (modified?) the policy last year:
As long as you’re not urging or suggesting that your buyers leave Etsy to make a purchase, you’re welcome to include any links you want in your shop – to your personal website, your blog, other online venues, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
Good news, yes?
Be sure to watch the video for the other exception to off site links on Etsy.
(I think it’s even better than the one I just told you about.)
